Hotel Playa Victoria enjoys a unique location right on the seafront overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on one side and one of the main squares of the ancient city of Cadiz on the other. The building is modern in design and achieves a perfect balance in form with its semi-circular terraced balconies and the intriguiging combination of local “oyster stone” work and blue glass. The hotel is built on the site occupied at the beginning of the 20th century by the historic Playa Victoria Spa.
The decorative style of the Hotel Playa Victoria highlights the juxtaposition of materials and textures: the rugged oyster stone harmonizes with smooth marble and wood surfaces, materials common in the local architectural tradition. Gold and bronze contrast with shades of green-tinged copper, and the warm iridescent tones of the columns with the natural light from the glasswork.
The careful selection of designer furnishings includes steel-backed chairs, lacquered tables, undulating sofas and oak tables with cast-iron legs. A magnificent feature is the spectacular sculpture hanging from the ceiling and the metallic palm fronds surrounding in oasis style the fountain in the Neptune bar.
Respect for the environment is one of the defining characteristics of the Hotel Playa Victoria. Using the most advanced natural resource saving systems, the hotel converts sea water for use in its heating and air-conditioning systems. All the energy used by the hotel is electric and, consistent with its nature conservation policy; all waste is rigorously sorted and treated. This resulted in the hotel receiving the Prince Felipe Prize for Business Excellence in the energy saving category, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Energy in 1995. In the same year the hotel also received an architectural prize from the magazine “Gran Hotel”.
