Hotel Normandy is the most famous property in Deauville, with a legendary chic that dates back to the Edwardian Age. The Anglo-Norman design, from 1912, includes half-timbering, dovecotes, turrets, gables, and a decor that resembles a cozy but stately English country house. Because of its extensive facilities for children, including a nursery and babysitting services, it attracts a number of upscale families with children, although that doesn't interfere with the hotel's image as a chic nest for French-language celebrities. During the Festival du Film Américain, it houses the French-language stars, members of the press, and members of the jury.
Originally built to house well-heeled gamblers from the nearby casino, it continues to draw the gambling crowd today. A recent 5-year renovation designed by mega-decorator Jacques Garcia updated all the rooms, public areas, and security systems. Each room is decorated with antique furniture, traditional fabrics, and plush carpets in the Belle Époque style.
The Hotel Normandy has two restaurants, La Belle Époque – Norman cuisine is served in a setting of pastel-shaded paneled ceilings, friezes, and stuccos that blend in with mahogany armchairs upholstered with wine-colored velvet. During the summer months, guests can dine on the terrace. And La Fermette – children have their very own restaurant where they can enjoy their favorite dishes in an enchanting setting – popular with children of all ages. Open at weekends and also on week days during the Parisian summer holiday period.
