The Region

The Gironde is the biggest department in France, 10.000 Km2, shaped by the intersection of the Garonne and Dordogne. The river has received the nickname of the European-Mississippi.
For those who like a traditional resort, the bassin d`Arcachon is only 45 minutes from Bordeaux. Climb the highest sand dune, the Pyla (112 m), enjoy several lakes and the pine forest of Landes and Gascogne (the widest forest in Europe) and finally discover the 1 000 000 hectares of vineyards. Savour at any time of the day the greatest Bordeaux wine with its different appellations.

Leisure information

• Visit the Médoc and the Châteaux, with or without a guide, journey by boat all along the Gironde (Bordeaux - Pauillac), visit the vineyard by helicopter, introductory wine tasting session, booking a T time for one of the two 18 holes golf courses.

• Cycling:
There are many possibilities to discover this green area by cycling.
It is one of the most pleasant way to visit the vineyards and Chateaux and, by the same time, taste some wine.

• Stables “Hauts de Gironde”:
Open every day from 09.00 am till 07.00 except Monday.
Located in the hart of the marshes it offers numerous horse riing or poney activities.
The rides may be organized for one hour or for the whole day and they will enble you to discover the vineyards or the rush or willow marshes.

• Flying Club of Montendre and from the north of Blaye:
Open every day except Tuesday.
This flying-club has various visits to offer such as flying over the area, the island of Ré or the Bassin of Arcachon. It is also possible to foresee a landing and take-off from the heliport of the “Relais de Margaux”.

• Water Skiing Club:
Open every day in July and August and only during the week-end for the period 15 April till 31 August and 01 September till 15 October, the lake of Carcans enables the practice of water-skiing.

• Lacanau Surfing Club:
Open all year. The Lacanau Surfing Club celebrates its 30th birthday. This Surfing Club is the biggest in Europe and also the oldest as it dates from 1968.
You are welcome to try surfing, bodyboard, longboard, skiboard and even bodybuilding or beach volley under a serious and appropriate service.

• Arcachon - Cruising:
You will sail with professional fishermen on a 20 meters long catamaran and go deep-sea fiching.
According to the season and with a little bit of luck you will come back from this excursion with some mackerels, tunas and maybe sharks.
The fishing equipment is provided and the trip lasts 8 hours.

• Golf du Médoc:
Located in the hart of the Médoc between Bordeaux and the Atlantic ocean and its beaches, discover the Golf du Médoc.
