Hotel Huerta Honda is located in a building that was in the orchard of the former Duques of Feria Palace, just across a path from the Zafra Parador. There are 33 Rooms and 3 Suites and the diversity of these rooms is fascinating. There are Andalusia style rooms with their own small patio and fountain, rooms with ancient four poster beds and, surprisingly, in a different wing, the most technologically and architecturally modern rooms we have seen in Spain. They all have full bathrooms of course. The public spaces are friendly and interesting, including the Restaurant Barbacana, the Bar-Meson, the Tienda Delicatessen and the Tapas bar. You can get anything from good regional cuisine and tapas to more elegant fare. Restaurant Barbacana is sited on the old barbican of the rampart that belonged to the Dukes of Feria’s Citadel. The doorway arch has the shield of Don Gómez Suárez de Figueroa, Lord of Feria, carved in stone, (year 1428). The owner of the hotel speaks good English and the staff is friendly and helpful. Zafra is a fascinating town and this is ideal location from which to explore it.
