THE LOCALITY
Monterroso, just a 3 min. walk from Cortijo Puerto El Peral, is a tiny hamlet which time has left behind. However, it does boast the inevitable bar/shop and, incredibly, it has its own 3 day "FIESTA" in August, when the population jumps from 15 to a couple of hundred.
ALMOGIA
9 Km away is the village of Almogia which offers several bars, a couple of restaurants (basic spanish) and some quaint traditions. One of the traditions is The Verdiales which looks like a combination of morris dancing and Flamenco and competitions take place every July. On a mountain top overlooking the village are the remains of a moorish fortification.
NATURAL WONDERS OF ANDALUSIA
Just a three quarters of an hour drive from our country hotel are some of the natural wonders of Andalucia. The Gorge of El Chorro is simply spectacular. The lakes at Ardales are actually three adjoined reservoirs but look like natural lakes, and the blue waters with the mountain backdrops are a site not to be missed. Also don't miss the cave of Ardales which was discovered in 1821, but it was not until 1918 that Abbot Breuil found and studied its prehistoric paintings and carvings.
MALAGA
It is about 40 minutes south of our rural hotel and is still a truly Spanish city which has managed to retain it's identity in spite of the tourist onslaught. There are many sights well worth seeing including the newly opened Picasso museum. The miriad small streets around the cathederal are full of restaurants, tapas bars and many small shops of all types and descriptions.
As well as it's rich historical tapestry Malaga offers all the trappings of a modern city with many shopping possibilities that you may not want to miss!
