In the Pays du Gard, within easy reach of the magnificent Pont du Gard site, lies France`s oldest Duchy, the Duche d'Uzes. Avignon is some 40 Km east and Nimes 26 Km south. Uzes is today a lovely small market town, extremely well preserved with many historical monuments.
The centre of Uzes is quite special, with many small pedestrian lanes, planted squares with fountains and archways and a multitude of traditional shops. There is a good selection of traditional restaurants, and lively café terraces. The Saturday weekly market on the Place aux Herbes is a must.
