The Cap Estel Hotel with it’s 7 deluxe rooms and 11 suites will offer a unique venue on the French Riviera. At the end of 19th century, a Russian prince constructed his Datcha at Eze on a 4 acre private peninsula located between Nice and Monaco. Around 1880 the Welsh writer James Walsh, banished by the British for his works considered too libertine, took procession of the premises. At the beginning the 20th century, the property was owned by a Greek ship owner, the mother of Lapostolle and in 1936 a wealthy Lithuanian born American put down the foundations of the existing building paying his architect and his staff in gold coins. In the 1930’s with the threat of war looming, he returned to the United States leaving behind him the uncompleted building. When occupying the French Riviera, the German army took over the property and tore up the rosewood floors for heating fuel...
In the early 50’s Robert Squarchafichi opened a 6 bed-roomed hotel which was to be called the Cap Estel and after a few years he expanded the number into a 40 roomed luxurious establishment which started welcoming tourists from all over World. Very soon it was to become a popular meeting place for Royalty, politicians and show business celebrities such as the Emir d’Oman, Gorges Pompidou, André Dalraux, Joe Kennedy, the father of J.F. Kennedy, Sir Laurence Olivier, Catherine Deneuve, the Beatles, Jacques Brel, David Niven, Anthony Quinn, Gina Lollobrigida ...just to mention a few. Bought in November 2000 by private investors and after 3 years of meticulous restoration to it’s original splendor the Cap Estel reopened 2004. The Cap Estel consists of the main building and one separate building, “La Corniche” and two bungalows “La Mer” and “Le Parc”. All the suites and rooms have either a balcony or a terrace and all with a sea view. Each building has its own style and all suites and rooms are equipped with state of the art technology. In addition there is a state of the art cinema seating 38 persons.
